All the animals in the open-air museum are found at the Lill-Valla playground. Come and see our goats, hens and rabbits. We have several Swedish country breeds, such as Mellerud rabbits, Gotland rabbits, Kinda hens and Bjurholm hens. Many of the old country breeds are endangered, so we are helping to preserve them for the future.

The goat pasture is home to the white Lapland goats, which used to be common in northern Sweden. Goats are sometimes called the poor man’s cow. In olden times, not everyone could afford to buy a cow. Goats were cheaper, they could eat bushes and graze on poor grazing lands, yet still provide milk, meat and leather to the family.

You can see all the animals in their outdoor environments year round.

The Lill-Valla playground is Linköping’s biggest playground. It has three different play areas—the blue area has a village of playhouses and zip lines for older kids, the yellow area has water games, and the red area has swings and balance equipment for younger kids. The play area also has an ice cream parlor and several barbecue and picnic areas. Not far from there is Valla Minigolf, with two 18-hole courses.
